TripTych: First of Many Crimes In This Wonderful Series

TripTych by Karin Slaughter
Triptych (Will Trent, #1) by Karin Slaughter: The First of Many Crimes in the Series

The Will Trent, novels by Karin Slaughter, has become one of my favorite series of all times and TripTych is the first of many crimes in the series. I started with a non Will Trent series book. I then found myself going down the rabbit hole of Karin Slaughter books, which makes the Will Trent series imposible to avoid. Once I started in the middle of the series, I needed to know more about where it all began, and that is how I ended up reading this specific book.

Premise of TripTych

The first character we meet in this book is Michael, a detective in Atlanta, Georgia. Michael is working on a crime case where women, usually young women, are murdered and their tongues are cut out of their mouths. Because of the complication of the scenes and the geographical wide spread of these murders, Will Trent is assigned by a higher jurisdiction to the crimes to assist Michael in solving these murders. Michael is less than happy about being assigned a partner he knows nothing about.

Then we jump over to another character, John, who just got out of jail for the rape and murder of a young girl, Mary Alice. This murder occured when John was a teenager and the whole situation was fusy to him. And it just so happens that Mary Alice’s murder sounds a lot like the murders Michael and Will are investigating. This book answers the question as to why John’s situation and the case in Atlanta seem so similar.

The Will Trent Series

After reading many Karin Slaughter books, I started my path down The Will Trent Series with the ninth book in the series, The Last Widow. And although starting in the middle of the book did not keep me from following the main storyline, there were clearly some nuances of the main characters that didn’t quite make sense. It took a few chapters for me to realize, this is not bad writing, I was just starting in the middle of a series.

From that point, I went on to the tenth and final book, The Silent Wife, and then the second book, Fractured. By the time I got to Fractured, I knew I had a full Will Trent and Karin Slaughter Series obsession. I now needed to read the first book and fill all the gaps that these other books have been alluding to.

Final Thoughts

Four books down and only nine more to go. The Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter is the most books in a series that I have ever read. I am determined to read the final nine and get the award of reading all 13 books. I can then for sure know, through and through, who the mysterious Will Trent is.
