Tiny Habits Helped Start This Blog

I owe this blog to this book. This is not the first time, or the second time, I’ve started a blog. Usually, my idea is grand: I’m going to do a ton of research and dissect ideas and come up with some amazing thing the world will want to read and I’ll become famous and get book deals and I’ll be the champion of the world!! But the reality of it all is, I lose patience and excitement and I stop writing and when the renewal comes around, I think: screw it and let it lapse.

This time around, thanks to Tiny Habits, I’ve decided to start small on something I already do: content I’m consuming. And my Tiny Habit to start this blog is to get myself to open this site. My habit is not to write. My habit is not to publish anything. It’s just to go to the Admin side of this site. Simple. Easy. TINY. In doing this, I’m hoping to create the habit that causes me to keep a blog for good this time.

But it does not end there. I’m trying a ton of other habits. Other habits I’m trying to form: establish a nightly routine, meditate, stretch after workouts, and being cognisant on eating right. And it doesn’t end here. Now, every time I want to start a new habit, I’ll go back to Tiny Habits and come up with a small habit to start the new habit.

The basic idea is to start small but also use prompts to start the habit. For example, my new habit of establishing a nightly routine is not to go into the bathroom, brush my teeth, floss, wash my face, put lotion on, take vitamins, etc. The habit is to just go into the bathroom. That’s it. Once that starts as a habit, then I can start adding all the other things. My prompt to go into the bathroom is an alarm on my phone set for 10pm every night. The idea is that when the alarm goes off, I walk into the bathroom. That’s it. Simple. And so far, it’s working.
