The Wives: Expect to Be Taken On a Wild Ride

Strap yourself in and get ready for a wild ride. In the first half of The Wives, the story appears to be predictable. The first half of the book is setting the scene. In this set up, Fisher wants you to think it will go a very predictable and very certain way. But I’ll tell you right now, it does not go that way. The second half of the book leaves you guessing on every page. Literally every page! I could not put it down until I found out the TRUTH!…. or at least the truth Tarryn Fisher created.

It’s a story of the golden husband living a polygamist life with multiple wives in the Seattle and Portland areas. In order to keep the arrangement civil, although each of the wives know about each other, none of them have ever met. There is Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, not based on their names, but based on the days they get to see Seth, Mr. Golden Husband.

The story is told by Thursday, and Thursday always has a curiosity of the other wives. But this curiosity grows to pure hunger starting with finding a paper with one of the wives names in Seth’s jacket pocket. She first starts with some light everyday internet stalking and then, before you know it, goes into some crazy twists and turns. She is a madwoman and then justified in her behavior and then she is a madwoman again.

Once I finished the last page and put it down, my mind started wondering. In the start of the book, was X possible if it ended like Y. Now that I know how it ends, I feel like I need to go back and read it with retrospective knowledge… or maybe just ask someone else who read it as my reading list is too long to double dip.
