Are you having trouble getting started on your novel? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many writers struggle with finding the right way to start their story. But there is a method that can help you get started, and it’s called the Snowflake Method.
What is the Snowflake Method?
There are two common ways to write a novel. Free hand is the method where a person will sit down and write whatever comes to their mind. Outlining is the method where a person will outline the story (which is not uncommon to be a hundred pages) and then fill in the pieces after the fact.
The Snowflake Method is somewhere in between. It starts with a single sentence. Then with each step, the story becomes more intricate with more detail and more substance. The initial product is basic and is represented by a triangle, but the final product turns into an intricate snowflake.
How can the Snowflake Method Help You Write Better?
For many, especially new writers, the freehand method becomes too unwieldy and ends up in directions the author did not intend. The outline method is too structured without much give in the process once the structure has been laid out.
The snowflake method allows for a perfect medium of freedom and framework. Each step requires plenty of creativity but each step is organized enough to keep it from getting out of hand.
