Oh TLC, you did it again! You created ANOTHER spin off from 90 Day Fiance, The Family Chantel. Although, this is probably my least favorite of the franchise. The show is named after what Pedro calls his wife’s family. It has sense explored the drama in both sides of the family, not just Chantel’s.
Where The Drama Started With The Family Chantel
All the drama started in Season 4, when Chantel brought Pedro over to the United States on a K1 visa, but told her family he was on a student visa. It wasn’t until RIGHT before the wedding, literally the day before the day of the wedding, Chantel told her family that Pedro is really here on a K1 visa and that is why they need to get married as quickly as they are. Needless to say, the family was not excited about the marriage especially when it was expedited.
Another drama occurs when Chantel hears Pedro’s mother tell him that Chantel and her family are “stupid Americans”. This causes Chantel to vent to her parents about this and therefore her family is now mad at Pedro and his family. This family feud only gets worse after this and the new show, The Family Chantel.
Where the Drama Is Now
Fast forward to Happily Ever After, another spin off show from 90 Day Fiance. Pedro, Chantel and Chantel’s family head to The Dominican Republic, where Pedro is from, to visit Pedro’s mother and sister. Chantel’s family accused Pedro’s family for finding an American to bring him to the US, which spun off this whole family rivalry. When Chantel’s brother marries a women from Thailand and Pedro’s sister starts a serious relationship with a man who lives in New York city, the family drama expands outside of the couple against their families.
Why TLC Made This A Spinoff
TLC must have thought “wow! There is some good drama here!” and created The Family Chantel. TLC put the two families back into the same room, let alone the same country and watched the cat fight starting. But I don’t think the drama paid off like TLC would have liked. Although the drama between the two families heated up, most of the drama was between Chantel’s sister and her boyfriend of five years. And by the end,the two families made nice. All the shows that proceeded this one had so much drama it was a hard act to follow. Then the show about their family drama was quite a bit of a let down.
Final Thoughts
Again, not my favorite of the 90 Day Fiance spin offs. Skip it and watch one of the other fifty thousand spin off shows. I could recommend any of the Darcy and Stacy’s series or The Single Life. TLC knows how to make the 90 Day Fiance shows and they do it well.
