Premise of The Southern Book Club’s Guide To Slaying Vampires

Patricia and her family live in the quiet and safe town of Mount Pleasant. After a strange run in with her neighbor where the rabid neighbor bit Patricia’s ear off, after making amends she also makes friends with the neighbor’s nephew, the newcomer who moved into the house. He seems like a nice fellow. She invites him to dessert and to join the book club. He is brought in with open arms.

That is until kids on the other side of the track begin to go missing. From reading about true crime, the club knows how to find the killer and are quickly able to tie these disappearances to him. But there are no such things a monsters. Does that mean she is crazy? All the clues point to him being the predator the poor community on the other side of town is looking for. It is up to her to convince her book club to go against this monster who has invited himself into their safe lives.

The New Lurking Monster In Mount Pleasant

Although the title implies that this monster is of the vampire variety, this monster is more than that. He is a serial killer meets vampire meets werewolf. He is allergic to the sun and preys on poor children. He attacks for blood but uses a protrusion in his mouth to do so. He is not quite a vampire. And he is unlike any other monster in any book I have ever read. He is his own kind of monster and this book is the Southern Book Club’s Guide To Slaying Vampires.

Final Thoughts

The Southern Book Club’s Guide To Slaying Vampire takes two common themes and weaves them together in uncommon ways. Southern hospitality is not new to books. Monsters and vampires are definitely not new to books. But put them together and there is a spin on horror that is unique and unlike anything else I have read before. And leave it to a book club to bring this monster down. For someone who knows something about being in a successful book club and being a big true crime fan, this is a dream come true.
