The 7 Best Podcasts For A Road Trip

The subjects of podcasts are wide. There is a podcast for everyone which make listening to podcasts for a road trip perfect. And the length of most podcasts is usually rather short, giving the opportunity to make to move to different podcasts without too much time investment. This is my list of seven podcasts I would recommend for a road trip.

For the Generally Curious Roadtripper: Stuff You Should Know

Stuff You Should Know:Best podcasts for a road trip

Stuff You Should Know is one of the oldest podcasts around. And because they have been around a long time, they have tons of podcasts to binge on which makes it one of the best podcasts for a road trip. The idea is simple, they pick a topic, research the hell out of it, and talk about it. Josh and Chuck, the hosts, are just likable guys. They do a good job on the subjects and because they have been releasing episodes regularly for over five years, there is plenty of content to benge listen to which makes it one of many podcasts for a road trip.

For the Curious Roadtripper With An Interest in Hollywood: Armchair Expert

Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard: Best podcasts for a road trip

The lightness of Dax Shepard and Monica Padman alongside the breadth of guests they have make listening to Armchair Expert the perfect podcast for a road trip. The guests they have on the show range from everyone like Tom Brady to Angela Duckworth (an expert on grit) to Laurie Santos (cognitive scientist). For each guest, Dax and Monica (I’m using their first name because I feel like we are friends) they show pure interest in the person, what they know, and what they have accomplished.

For the Scientifically Curious Roadtripper: Science Rules

Science Rules: Best podcasts for a roadtrip

Science Rules is Bill Nye’s podcast. Each episode has a scientific expert who covers all things about it. These are knowledgeable people who dig in with Nye on a specific subject. Although these experts can be dry and not necessarily know how to break it into layman’s terms, Bill Nye is there to help. Being a well known scientist celebrity specifically for children, he makes it fun and easy to understand. If science is your thing, this is a must listen to podcasts for a road trip.

For the Roadtripper Who Wants to Laugh: PenPals

Penpals: best podcasts for a road trip

PenPals is one of the least well known podcasts I listen to. But definitely not least in quality, as can be told by my Top 7 Entertainment Podcasts. This podcast got on my radar after buying tickets for Clusterfest, Comedy Central’s comedy festival. They were set to perform and I figured I would give it a try.

They were the best thing I saw that weekend. I laughed my ass off and Rory and Daniel do not disappoint. It was clear that few people in the audience were not familiar with the podcast but instead of making this a negative thing, they used it as a tool to make the audience laugh and fall in love with them.

For the True Crime RoadTripper: Crime Junky

Crime Junkie: The best podcasts for a road trip

I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts. I could have picked a number of them to add to this list but I picked Crime Junky. I picked Crime Junky due to the format of the podcast and the fantastic job the two hosts do at explaining what has happened. Ashley is a great story teller and Brit adds context around things many people wouldn’t normally know. They truly have passion about true crime and keeping women in particular safe. It may make for a scary road trip but it’s still one of my picks for one of the best podcasts for a road trip.

For the Geeky Roadtripper: ID10T w/ Chris Hardwick

ID10T with Chris Hardwick: Best podcasts for a road trip

Similar to other celebrity podcasts, Chris Hardwick has a gauntlet of other celebrities on his podcast. But unlike most other celebrities, he has a focus on the types of celebrities. He focuses on people who work on people who have worked on cult projects or projects that are of the nerd persuasion. As someone who is a bit of a nerd himself, he geeks out on the tiniest of details which these people bring to his show. He truly has an interest in what he is doing and who he is talking to.

For the History Buff Roadtripper: The History Chicks

The History Chicks: The Best Podcasts for a road trip

The History Chicks is a podcast about women in history. Each episode is usually on the longer side and sometimes span over more than a single episode; however, of all the history podcasts I listen to, I find The History Chicks one of the more thorough. Because they focus on women in history, a lot of what they talk about is how women overcome their suppression and rose up into greatness. With episodes about historical figures like Annie Oakley, Marie Curie, and Agatha Christie, this podcast will not disappoint.
