There is nothing like a powerful women’s movie. Especially one with these powerful women coming up with smart elaborate plans to steal expensive shit, like in Ocean’s 8. What other movie franchise does the stealing expensive shit better than the Ocean’s… fill in the number movie. To make it about powerful women, just set the cast full of women and typical women subjects.
The fashion. The jewelry. And the Shoes. This is a movie franchise made for men, changed to cater to women. Although I find it a bit offensive to throw material items in a movie to make it feminine, I also have to say, I may not have found Ocean’s 8 as appealing if they didn’t make this stereotypical move. This is when I give a major eye roll.
This Cast!
I know I always gush over casts, but this one. This one! It could not be an Ocean’s number movie without an amazing cast. And this cast is absolutely delicious! Although I could fill this post with just names, I won’t. They would all be impressive names but it will fill the whole page. But it would not be an Ocean’s movie without an amazing cast.
Just to name a few (I have to), we have Sandra Bullock as the ringleader and the mastermind. Cate Blanchett plays next in line and the soundboard for Sandra Bullock’s character to describe the plan. Anne Hathaway plays the famous actress and the mark. Then there are Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna, Dakota Fanning, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, who I have recently fell in love with, as the brains who are able to execute the plan, and I could continue.
Use of Technology in Ocean’s 8
I appreciate the technology “used” in Ocean’s 8. Even if the technology is hypothetical, the use of technology was creative. The techy girl in me found myself actually trying to figure out how these technologies could work in real life. A lot of them could. For example, the 3-D scan of the necklace to be used to 3-D print a fake one. Totally doable. I feel like, if given enough time and enough resources along with my tinkering of 3-D models and 3-D printing, even as an amature I could figure out how to do this. I guess it’s time to make my entrepreneurial debut to… be a criminal? Nah, I’ll stick to my day job.
My Final Thoughts
This is not going on my top movies list. I have seen this movie once and that was good enough for me. The clothes, and the tech, and the cast is good, but not good enough for me to go through the B grade movie again.
