As an end to this crazy year that will go down in history as the year we all stayed home, I decided to put together a list of the movies I watched in the hectic year of 2020. One thing about staying home, is that like many other people, I took in a lot of content. I read a lot of books, listened to a lot of podcasts, and watched a lot of movies. This is the list I put together of the best movies I watched in the hectic year of 2020.
Parasite
Those of you living in a hole, may not have realized that Parasite was one of the biggest movies of 2019. It won a number of awards and people gushed about the uniqueness of it all. And I am right alongside them, gushing my little brain out. This was the best movie many watched in the year of 2019 but it’s one of the best movies I watched in the hectic year of 2020.
Force Majeure
Force Majeure is not a movie I would typically pick up to watch, but thanks to a little podcast called Movie Crush, it came across my to watch list and I’m glad it did. This was one of the most understated, yet unique movie I have ever seen. Just like Parasite, Force Majeure is a foreign movie. I find myself drawn to foreign films due to their lack of stereotypical, whatever is popular that year in Hollywood snoodyness. They typically are something I have never seen anywhere else and Force Majeure fits this bill. That being said, don’t bother watching the American version.
All About Eve
I love old Hollywood glamor movies and All About Eve is the definition of an old Hollywood glamor movie. All About Eve is a Hollywood glamor movie about Hollywood glamor. For anyone else making a fill-in-the-blank list of movies in 2020, this movie would likely not make their list. But it made my list because, if nothing else, it opened my eyes to old movies like none of the other movies I watched in the hectic year of 2020. Because it is so memorable and changed my film watching career for the best, it definitely goes on this list.
Booksmart
To some, Booksmart is the girl version of Superbad. And although I see the resemblance, it is also only touching the tip of the iceberg. There are items to each movie, including Jonah Hill being in Superbad and Beanie Feinstein being in Booksmart and them being real life brother and sister, that very much resemble each other. However, if you have seen one, don’t expect the other to be the same. Both are entertaining and both will give you something the other cannot.
1917
I saved the best for last. The movie, 1917, was by far my favorite movie I watched in the hectic year of 2020. I was blown away by the craftsmanship and art of this movie. The plot of the movie was stressful and between a great script and beautiful work, I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie. Never has a movie stressed me out as much as 1917 and I loved every minute of it.
