Blame any of the weird, odd, horrible movies I watch and write about on How Did This Get Made? Some of the movies that can be found on this blog include Cool World and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
The podcasts, Movie Crush and How Did This Get Made, are the main reasons I choose any movie to watch these days. And therefore these are also the movies I post about on this blog. However, Movie Crush is about the best movies of all time, the idea being the movie the guest has a “crush” on it. And on the other hand, How Did This Get Made is the opposite. As the name implies, these are movies that are horrible and should have never been made. However they are delightfully awful.
Why Would Anyone Watch Bad Movies And Listen To How Did This Get Made?
So, how does this podcast get millions of people to watch bad movies, then tune in to listen to people talk about it? How about getting Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas to talk about these dreadful movies. That’s how! All three of these people are hilarious. Each bring a real movie industry eye to the perspective. Above all, all three actually care about these horrible movies. The passion comes out almost immediately.
For instance, a very heated debate over the movie, Drop Dead Fred came out on the episode for this movie. It was obvious that the passion for this movie was real. Each side was deliberate in their argument and believed it whole heartedly. This argument being based on who thinks the main character who has Fred as an imaginary character, played by Phoebe Cates, is insane or whether Fred is real and he is just one of many imaginary friends that children have. These two arguments were dubbed “Team Fred” and “Team Sanity”.
Team Fred and Team Sanity was brought up on every episode for weeks after reviewing Drop Dead Fred. And each time it was brought up, it felt like we were witnessing the last episode of the podcast ever. These people seemed they would never speak to each other again.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, their passion for these movies and the details they add are great! This podcast is silly. It is funny. It causes me to watch the weirdest movies I never would have otherwise watched. But I like the weird movies it makes me watch and I like the podcast. I look forward to learning about the next odd movie I will be watching next.
