One By One: The French Alps Thriller Of The Year

One by One: The MadFind French Alps Thriller of the year

Like many other books I’ve been writing about recently, One By One was put on my reading list from The Goodreads Awards. It did not come in first place for thriller but it is the only thriller that takes place in the French Alps which makes One By One the French Alps thriller of the Year.

Premise of One By One

The executive employees of a fast growing technology company, Snoop, rent a chalet in the French Alps. Snoop has caught the world by storm and is now one of, if not the top social media apps for music.

The beginning of the book sets up the characters and established two narrators, Erin and Liz. Erin works at the chalet to serve drinks and make sure all their desires are attended to. Liz is the homely young girl who doesn’t fit in amongst her fellow Snoop employees. And as the story unravels, it becomes apparent why Liz is a bit of a black sheet in the world of sheek tech companies.

At first one of the co-founders goes missing. An accident, they all presume. She probably fell off the cliff or she got caught in the bad weather that causes the avalanche. This is the same avalanche that knocks out their power and their only way of escaping the chalet, the tram. Then the tech geek is found dead. And that is when they know, someone stuck in the chalet has murdered two people. And the big question in the French Alps thriller of the year is “who is next?”

Final Thoughts

Despite my attempt to stereotype the murder aspect of One By One, I truly enjoyed it. I would be lying if I said I didn’t check out what it would take to go to that part of the world, avalanche or not.
