Like many other American women, I am a fan of true crime. I am even wearing a “My Favorite Murder” podcast t-shirt as I write this. So, when Netflix came out with a fictionalized series about the weird and evil real-life monster, I had to tune in.
The Premise of Dhamer
The series follows the life of the horrific murders of Jeffrey Dahmer. As if the creators knew that no one would want to watch a series based on an active serial killer, the series starts with how he was captured. Then it jumps to the past and shows his childhood, how he would find the men that he would kill, and what he would do to them. It covers the people who were greatly affected by his actions including the families of the victims and his neighbor, who repeatedly tried to get the police involved.
In the final episode of the series, we follow Dahmer in prison, we also learn about the aftermath of it all. The people who sent Dhamer admirable letters and money. The book his father wrote. How the people who were affected by the murders dealt with the aftermath. And the other murderers who raged around the nation.
The Cast
More than once did I find myself going to IMDb with the thought of “is that who I think that is?” Jeffrey Dahmer is played by Evan Peters, who is of American Horror Story (Affiliate) fame. The neighbor is played by Niecy Nash, whom I loved from Claws (Affiliate) and Reno 911 (Affiliate). And then there is 80’s legend, Molly Ringwald. And of course, there are plenty of other brilliant people who are in this show.
Final Thoughts
Although the show was a bit difficult to watch due to it’s tough subject matter, it was very enjoyable. It was done in a manner that allowed the watcher to feel the pain of the victims and the families of the victims. But it also limited the gore that was actually shown. This is why I think this show was easier to watch regardless of the tough subject matter.
