Deacon King Kong
Deacon King Kong: No Good Murder, Drugs, and Church

Deacon King Kong starts with a no good murder of a drug dealer. The book title implies ties to the church, so what does a murder of a drug dealer have to do with the church? Rumor has it that the deacon of the church killed the drug dealer. So when the community is trying to find out what really happened, there are some hidden secrets that are revealed, and a hidden relationship that explains how the church came to be and why free cheese shows up for the community to eat.

Premise of Deacon King Kong

Deacon King Kong starts with Sportcoat, an old man who serves as deacon at the local church, shooting the drug dealer of the housing projects. He has zero recollection of shooting the drug dealer and therefore does not understand his own actions. As he is a heavy drinker, specifically of the concoction they call King Kong. Because there were plenty of eye witnesses, he cannot deny that he did not commit this no good murder. From here, the story of Sportcoat and other characters unravels and ends in the most important story, the story of how the church came to be.

Final Thoughts

Stories about drug dealers and drunks living in the projects in New York is not really my cup of tea. I would rather read about love stories during World War 2 or someone who solves puzzles to reach to reach fame and fortune, like in Ready Player One and Two. Although it was an okay book, it is not one I will be singing the praises for.
