Wondry’s Business Wars is the podcast that explains specific situations in the competitive world of making money in the business world. When someone has a good idea, someone else will start something similar that, in their eyes, is better solution to the problem. The business world is full of this competitive world.
Premise of Business Wars
As I write this, Business Wars has nearly seventy seasons. Each season covers an area in business where there has been competition, which is most industries there is at least one if not more competitors. Think Lyft and Uber or Indian and Harley Davidson. The world of making money will always attract competition. There is an element of being a scripted show which takes away from this podcast show at moments but also adds an entertainment aspect.
The Seasons Covering The Competitive World
As mentioned, each of the many seasons covers a different competition. Each episode is two or more companies that had competed against each other, what they did to come out as the winner, and who, if anyone, prevailed. Below are some of the seasons I have enjoyed:
- Netflix vs. Blockbuster: Blockbuster starts as the giant in the space, but as we all know, Netflix is the chosen way to watch movies now and Blockbuster is an old relic. But the competition does not stop there with all the other streaming services available.
- Southwest vs American: Southwest airlines has a different, cheaper, and more efficient way of doing things causing the big daddy airlines, like American, to rethink how they do business.
- Hasbro vs. Mattel: Each of these companies have name brand games that grace the closets of many American families. The games they come out with are their brands and the only way to stay on top is to continue coming out with great games with great brands and great marketing.
- KFC vs. Chick-fil-A: The story of old school fried chicken with a healthier option closer to God. KFC must make changes to the way they have been doing business in order to keep their clientele who has discovered a better kind of fast food chicken.
Final Thoughts
Business Wars is a different type of business podcast where it tells a true story over time on the competitive world of business. Although many of us lived through and patronized these companies, and in many ways, have chosen a side. This podcast gets deeper into it and explores the details of the decisions these companies have had to make in order to remain competitive.
