A new year means a new start and a new start means there are a number of books to look forward to in 2022. I have scrubbed through other lists from Goodreads, Time, Penguin Random House and more. Each with their own list of what is coming out in the new year and have devised my own list including both fiction and nonfiction books.
Fiction Books to Look Forward To
Gallant by V.E. Schwab: I love everything V.E Schwab, including A Gathering of Shadows. I think she has a wonderful imagination, always has a strong feminine lead, and is able to put it all on paper perfectly. Gallant is about a girl going home to a place with secrets.
Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel: I enjoyed Station Eleven, which is now a television show, and The Glass Hotel. Now is a book by the same author about three stories that come together over centuries in the wilderness of Canada. It is a book that ponders theories around time.
Tripping Arcadia by Kit Mayquist: This is an author I have never heard of but I am intrigued by her writing already. What pulled me in was Goodread’s description of a “modern Gothic with all the splendor of The Great Gatsby.” I have heard enough and I am sold.
The Christie Affair by Nina de Gramont: Another author I am unfamiliar with. However, it is a fictional novel about Agatha Christie’s disappearance for eleven days that still leaves people wondering where she went. Agatha Christie? A mystery about Agatha Christie even? Sign me up!
I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston: A list would not be complete without some type of Young Adult or Chick Lit book. And for those genres, I’m excited about this book about a girl, Shara, who gets kissed by Chloe and then disappears. But Chloe is not the only one and that is when the truth comes out.

Nonfiction Books to Look Forward To
The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward by Daniel H. Pink: Regret is something everyone has. It might be annoying but it serves a purpose. This book explores how regret works and helps to make better decisions in the future.
Heiresses by Laura Thompson: We hear about the men of the Vanderbilts, the Hearsts, the Morgans and more, but we rarely hear about the women. Although the appear to be privileged on the outside, a closer look exposes how unglamorous this life was for the women.
Let’s Get Physical by Danielle Friedman: I am a workout buff. I work out for five or six days a week for at least an hour. But how did it come to be a common practice for women exercise? This book explores how physical activity became main stream for the women of today.
Embrace Your Almost by Jordan Lee Dooley: Finally I end this list with a book about setting goals and achieving them. As someone who keeps a regular goal spreadsheet and is constantly attempting to move forward, this book is a strong yes for the new year.
